R.Schumacher was fastest in free practice this morning (1:14.2) with the two McLarens 2nd and 3rd.

First out: Montoya in his rebuilt McLaren – sector 1 = 22.6; S2=52.7; S3=lap=1:15.902 = provisional pole (pP1) inevitably.
Fisichella – S1=22.6; S2=52.6; S3=1:15.601 = pP1 by 0.301s
Friesacher – S1=28.8; S2=55.8; S3=1:20.306 = pP3
Raikkonen – S1=22.6; S2=52.4; S3=1:14.819 = pP1 by 0.782s
Barrichello – S1=22.5; S2=52.8; S3=1:15.746 = pP3

Batch 2 is led out by Albers – S1=23.5; (fighting with his Minardi through Turn 9) S2=55.2; S3=1:9.563 = pP5
Monteiro – 23.; 55.1; 1:19.040 = pP5
Karthikeyan (TM’s teammate) – 23.2; 54.8; 1:18.557 = pP5
Coulthard – 22.5; 52.7; 1:15.795 = pP4
Massa – 22.7; 53.0; 1:15.863 = pP5

R.Schumacher starts off Batch 3 – 22.5; 52.2; 1:14.870 = pP2 by 0.051 – he was looking good to take pP1
Liuzzi – 22.7; 52.9; 1:16.288 = pP8 – he lost a lot of time in S2
Webber – 22.3; 52.3; 1:115.042 = pP3, despite being well up in S1+S2
Heidfeld – 22.4; 52.3; 1:15.038 = pP3
Trulli – 22.4; 52.3; 1:14.795 = pP1 by 0.024s

The final batch is just 3 cars (because the 2 BARs are absent):
Villeneuve – 23.0; 53.7; 1:16.794 = pP12 – that’s pretty poor
M.Schumacher – 22.4; 52.5; 1:15.398 = pP6
Alonso – 22.4; 52.1; 1:14.811 = pP2 by 0.016s

Provisional grid:

  1. J.Trulli (Toyota) 1:14.795
  2. F.Alonso (Renault)

*Don’t forget the penalties: both Williams drivers changed engines, so 10-place penalties await both Webber and Heidfeld. Barrichello’s car also needed a new engine, so he’ll be 10 grid places too.
