Spanish Grand Prix – Sunday qualifying
[preamble/updates/schedule] [Saturday qualifying]
Provisional grid (and therefore the reverse order for today’s qualifying session): JT, FA, KR, RS, NH*, MW*, MS, GF, RB*, DC, FM, JM, VL, JV, NK, TM, CA, PF. (No BARs of course.)
[NH, MW & RB will all receive 10-grid-spot penalties.]
TSN continue to suggest that other teams are/were using the same fuel tanks that BAR were penalised for – they’ve mentioned Ferrari more than once, but always phrasing it carefully because there have been threats of legal action by certain teams if they are falsely accused!
PF’s combined time 2:42.759 = pP1 (duh!)
CA – 2:41.141 = pP1
TM – 2:39.943 = pP1 but immediately pulls off with smoke pouring out his Jordan – it’s an unusual failure of the Toyota engine
NK – 2:39.268 = pP1
JV – 2:36.480 = pP1
VL – 2:35.302 = pP1 by 1.9s
JM – 2:33.472 = pP1 by 1.8s
FM – 2:34.224 = pP2 but 2.2s faster than teammate JV
DC – 2:34.168 = pP2
RB – not putting up a time because he’s already getting a 10-spot penalty
GF – 2:32.830 = pP1 by 0.6s
MS – 2:33.551 = pP3
MW – 2:31.668 = pP1 by 1.162s! Apparently MW’s engine wasn’t changed, so no penalty after all.
NH – not putting up a time because he’s already getting a 10-spot penalty
RS – 2:31.917 = pP2 even though he was well ahead in S1
KR – 2:31.421 = pP1 by 0.247s
FA (home town favourite) – 2:31.691 = pP3
JT – 2:31.995 = P5 – got to hope he’s running fat on fuel
