Italian Grand Prix – Practice
Highlights of the earlier sessions: Kiesa’s engine went bang; PdlR and MS running head to head at one point, with the McLaren coming out on top.
PdlR puts in a 1:24.944 … then 1:23.683 … and 1:22.729 … but then it’s only the Friday drivers that have been out so far.
PdlR again – 1:22.458
MS locks up and then runs wide … and a bit wide again – his best time so far 1:24.427
PdlR 1:22.132; #2 = Zonta 1:23.534; #3 = Button 1:23.576
KR puts in 1:21.857 – next lap looks a bit loose, but it results in a new fastest lap of 1:21.735
15mins into session: KR, PdlR, JT, RS, RZ, JB, MS, MW. (~2/3 of drivers have been on track for this session so far.)
22mins: only four cars left to join the session: GF, FA, DC & CK.
GF joins and promptly puts up the 4th fastest time
MS loses the rear end and sticks his Ferrari backwards into the tyre wall. When the crane lifts the car, it’s obvious just how far forward the weight bias is – it’s hanging almost vertically!
30mins: KR (1:21.735), PdlR, JM, GF, MS, RZ, JT, RS.
Still to join: FA, DC + CK.
Session is finished for N.Kiesa + MS.
KR’s putting in fastest sector times: S1=26.0, S2=27.6, but not a good S3
RS runs wide, across the kitty litter
DC, CK and FA all join the track, so now everyone’s been out in this session.
JM tops KR’s fastest lap with a 1:21.583
RZ 1:21.409
45mins: RZ, JM, KR, PdlR, MW, NH, GF, VL.
RZ 1:21.203
5mins left: RZ still topping the timing list with 1:21.203
RZ f/lap 1:20.531 (S1=26.0, S2=27.5, S3=26.9)
Chequered flag is out; fastest drivers = RZ (1:20.531), JM, KR, PdlR, MW, NH, VL, JT
Slowest = E.Toccacelo @ 1:25.245 (ignoring N.Kiesa whose engine blew on his first out lap)
Max # laps = 28 by R.Zonta
