Jethro Tull

Kerri & I saw Jethro Tull at Massey Hall last night, the first night of the N.American leg of their tour.

If anyone is planning on seeing them (and you should!) here’s a warning: don’t be fooled by “with special guest violinist Lucia Micarelli” – she’s not the support act – Tull came on stage just after 8pm, much to the surprise of a lot of people who weren’t in their seats!

The set was great, as usual, and Lucia Micarelli joined them for a number of songs; personally I would have cut one or two of her pieces and had more Tull numbers, because we’d all paid to see them, but she was very good.

They did a cover of Kashmir (one of my favourite Led Zep songs), as well as The Love Song from The Godfather and Bohemian Rhapsody. As for Tull songs, there were the classics (Aqualung, Beggar’s Farm) and some oldies that they’ve not played for many years; a good selection … I just wished they’d kept playing for another couple of hours.

Two mini-gripes though: (1) Massey Hall’s seats are tiny – I had a dent in my knee because there’s no space, and (2) what was with all the jazz fans who insisted on clapping mid-song?

A great concert though, and from where we were (left balcony, right above the stage) we got to see a great show.
