I was just reading some theories about the mysterious Lost numbers, including some maps of potential locations of the island (assuming those numbers are coordinates). [Map 1; map 2; map 3; map 4]

There’s a suggestion that it relates to “genetic mirror theory” invented by a French mathematician called Marseille Roussau … except I’ve yet to find (via Google) any mention of this “theory” that pre-dates Lost. Update: Aha! The source of this “theory” is, as I expected, a hoax.

Is the fact that the numbers are in numerical order significant?

Or what about the first two digits (4 8) is the number of survivors from the front of the plane (48)? And the 2nd and third numbers (8 15) is the same as the flight number (Oceanic Flight #815), which they boarded at gate# 23.

If you add up all the numbers (4+8+15+16+23+42) = 108 = #minutes between entering the code

Apparently “108 is also the number of beads on a Buddhist Mala which is used to count mantras and prayers, and the organisation was called Dharma initiative.”

The Dharma logo seen on all sorts of things in the bunker is the same as the Ba Gua Octagon, which “is one of the tools used in feng shui to help determine preferred locations for certain functions in the home or office.”

But what about the polar bear (or whatever it is)?

Some people have found/documented a whole more than I can (e.g. here) but some just get carried away with it all! :)

p.s. The Channel4 site is amazing!

  2. I have heard some of the theories, but you’ve just added to my confusion ;) Great post with some interesting links. I like the site and the way you’ve set it up. Keep up the good work.

  4. The Complimenting Commenter: thanks for stopping by.

I was hoping that jotting down some thoughts on Lost would make it clearer but instead I found some quite profound sites (and some really way-out ones!), and I’m no closer to understanding. :)

Thanks for your feedback. I’ve added a “I’ve been complimented” button to my sidebar.
