Tungsten software

I posted about downloading software for my new PDA (I wrote it a few days ago but it was still sitting as Draft until this morning – d’oh!) but now I want to track down the official Palm software that comes with the Tungsten|E. Unfortunately my friend who donated the Palm to me didn’t get the software CDs when she bought it, which is part of the reason she wanted to pass it on.

According to Palm’s data sheet for the Tungsten|E, I should have a whole heap of software:

Without the CDs I don’t have any of that software, so my task for this afternoon is to try to track them down; I’ll update this entry if/when I find them.

Update #1: My Tungsten™ E Handheld -> register it (done).
Tricks & Tips, including Beam Phone Numbers To Your Cell Phone.
None of the photo software, RealOne (MP3 player), Kinoma (video player), or the Documents To Go® Office Suite pages actually tell you where to download the full software.

#2: Adobe reader can be downloaded from here.

#3: Posted a plea for help in LiveJournal’s Palm community.

  • This post is marked as “sticky” (hence the slightly different look to it), which means it will always appear at the top of the main page, ahead of any newer entries
  • I am in the middle of making some changes to the blog’s appearance; if you see anything highlighted like this it just means that’s the CSS element I’m currently working on – no significance other than that. (I’ve replaced the long blurb about changing this blog’s layout with this quick note – if you want to read more, that entry is here.)
  • I’ll try to keep this admin post brief … so that’s it for now :)

And so it begins

Breaking news alert c/o BBC:

Vice-President Dick Cheney’s top aide, Lewis Libby, is charged on several counts in connection with the unmasking of a covert CIA agent.

More from BBC News:

A top aide to the US vice president has been charged with obstruction of justice and perjury in an inquiry into the unmasking of a covert CIA agent.

Lewis Libby, chief of staff to Dick Cheney, has also been charged with making false statements to the federal grand jury during its two-year probe.

Presidential adviser Karl Rove appears to have escaped immediate indictment.

The identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame – whose husband criticised the Iraq war – was leaked to a US reporter in 2003.

Blog rolls to the left, blog rolls to the right

I’ve got too many lists! I use del.icio.us, blogrolling.com, bloglines and the link manager built in to WordPress. What I need want is a simple way to show them in this blog.

  • del.icio.us: there’s a WP plugin that I’ve downloaded but have yet to try.
  • blogrolling: I can’t find a plugin for this!?!
  • bloglines: it’s a separate application, but is there a way to integrate them?
  • WP’s own link manager: duh, yeah – it’s on the page already.

WARNING: I’m messing with the blog’s layout again

I’m trying to reduce the length of the main page by breaking the side bar into two.

If it looks ugly right now, come back in a couple of hours and I should have fixed it. :)

Update: OK, so I haven’t broken it (yet!) but I have downloaded a few “off the shelf” layouts that I could “borrow” from, plus there’s a really interesting AJAX-based theme called “Bloxpress” that I want to investigate. While I’m not messing around, I’ll put it back to a basic 3-column layout; it probably means some of my tracking tools and other “clever” stuff won’t work, but you should be able to read the blog OK. I’m back to tinkering for a bit….

Themes I’m testing out:

  • Aesthetic – not bad, but I’d have to get rid of the forced capitals and the borders on linked images, and make the whole thing a bit wider
  • bionicjive – I quite like the simplicity but it’s based on tables! Aargh!
  • blue-radiant – again, the columns need to be wider
  • cleanlook
  • Fall-In-Love – some formatting work needed, plus see comments on Aesthetic above (same author)
  • flex – nice and clean
  • head – definitely potential to do some artistic but less garish with it
  • identification-band-quadruplet-boyish – I like the idea of four columns, but the main content needs to be wider and stand out more
  • identification-band-triplet-centered-boyish – clear, but the columns all need to be wider
  • identification-band-triplet-right-boyish – ditto (same layout except for placement of one column)
  • relaxation_3column – the Fickr column could be replaced by my BlogRoll
  • safety – I don’t like the colour combination, and the search box overruns the left column; needs a bit of work before I’d use it
  • stanch – nice and clean, if maybe a bit too basic?
  • three-col-kubrick – probably the best start-point for making my own theme
  • trident – the fonts are quickly ugly, but other than that OK

The long-term aim is to have a few themes for users to choose from, but I need one that I’m happy with as a basis – there’s a few plugins that I want to checkout/add, and I want to make sure the same toys as available in each theme.

Oh, and if you see anything highlighted like this it just means that’s the CSS element I’m currently working on – no significance other than that.
