Uptimes
Wow – no posts for a few days and now three in a matter of minutes!
I just opened Firefox (I normally use Opera, but I wanted to check something out in a different browser) and our website is my homepage … which is when I noticed the server uptime box said “error”. It looks like there’s been a battle over The Uptimes Project, and I’m not sure who won.
Initially (or at least since I’ve known about it) The Uptimes Project lived @ uptimes.wonko.com and I’ve always known the client (i.e. the thing you run on the PC to send your stats) as Wonko‘s Uptimes Client.
Then it moved to http://uptimes.hostingwired.com but then (a few months ago) I remember seeing that it was moving to http://uptimes.lp-musix.net/, where there’s a quiet bitter post about how HostingWired let the QoS slip (agreed!) and “On Thursday morning, 3 November 2005, Daniel was contacted by hostingwired stating that control of the The Uptimes Project be turned over to hostingwired immediatly.” [sic]
[I also found http://uptimes-project.org/ but that's a mirror of http://uptimes.lp-musix.net/]
So where does that leave us users? (Other than confused, I mean!) It looks like there’s going to be a breakaway development, so I’ll be watching http://uptimes-project.org/ (because their other URL is ugly) for news. Fingers crossed.
