Right Wing or Left Wing?
Whilst trundling through some blogs, logging a few credits with BlogExplosion (or was it BlogClicker?) I found this: Christian Wainright dot com: Right Wing or Left Wing? So let’s have a go:
- I don’t support the war in Iraq. Bush & co simply lied; Blair et al fell for it; thousands have died as a result. If there was any real justice, Bush & Blair would be indicted, forced to step down, faces charges nationally and internationally for war crimes having invaded a sovereign nation under false pretences.
- I would support action against hostile nations … except the government(s) must show that the other nation really is hostile – just pointing vaguely at the Middle East and repeating “WMD” and “9/11″ does not constitute a valid case!
- I don’t think George W. Bush is very intelligent – yeah, I agree with TOP on this one
- I think Dick Cheney is very dangerous, and that Bush would be (even more) lost without him.
- I believe abortion is an extreme step that should never be taken lightly, but that it’s the parents (not just the woman’s) right to choose.
- I would oppose any legislation to make abortion illegal.
- I support legalising, regulating, and taxing marijuana.
- Gay marriage should be legalized across the board. If certain religions/churches don’t like it, they don’t have to host the service; there are plenty of other places willing to
relieve the happy couple of a pile of cashperform the wedding. - I support socialized medicine … just so long as the health service doesn’t become a synonym for administrative overhead, financial mismanagement and wastefulness
- Economic and national security issues are of equal importance to me as domestic social issues; ignoring domestic social issues just leads to economic and national security issues!
- We should investigate the best ways to generate power, and if that means building more nuclear reactor power plants then I’m OK with that … but NIMBY!
- I would not support legislation requiring any new vehicle to be hydrogen powered by the 2010 model year because (a) if the public are too stupid to realise petrol/gas/fuel/call-it-what-you-will prices are only going to keep increasing, then they deserve to pay through the nose (or not have a car at all!), and (b) who says hydrogen power is the best way forward? See previous answer.
- Any legislation to protect any one species strikes me as wrong; who’s to say the manatee, the whale, or whatever deserves protection but frogs and emu don’t?
A couple of others that TOP didn’t mention but I’ll add:
- I strongly believe in the separation of church and state … and the separation of church and education; science teachers should teach science (i.e. evolution) and religious education teachers can teach “intelligent design”.
- I also believe that any school that teaches any one religion should have its government grants cut – teach an overview of a representative sample, fine, but focus exclusively on one then ask that religion to fund your indoctrinations.
- I believe too many people think they have “rights” whereas what they really have are privileges.
- I don’t believe there is such a thing as an honest politician or lawyer; I’m not convinced there ever has been.
- I think anyone who believes they have any privacy (these days?) is sadly mistaken; even if you’re not actually online, your information is still out there.
- I have more belief in extra-terrestrial life than in religion … but ultimately I don’t believe we’ll ever meet aliens.
- I believe it’s time to post this and get on with what I’m meant to be doing!!
