PDA sync error

I’ve noticed (over the past few days) that my USB-connected PDA (Tungsten|E) has been reporting “Can’t open the port” at the end of a sync. It doesn’t happen every time, and it only flashes up on the PDA briefly but it’s not logged on the PC side at all … and the sync appears to be successful (changes on the PDA appear on the PC and vice versa).

The error message isn’t unique enough so Google returns thousands of irrelevant “matches”; let’s see what Palm’s support site has to offer. HotSync Support Guide -> nothing helpful.

The support guide has a link to the HotSync Manager Update 4.1 for Windows … which is worrying because I’m running v6.0.1! If I go to Support for Palm Tungsten E Handhelds it also has a link to Download Palm Desktop & HotSync Manager, and here it’s HotSync Manager 6.0.1 – hmmm, maybe someone at Palm needs to do some updating!

Time to check out the Palm forums -> Windows HotSync -> nothing relevant (that I can see). Time to post a question! … and here it is. Now to wait and see if anyone has an answer.
