Friday Factoids – barely

Given Friday is almost over (and it’s been a busy one!) here are a few random factoids for your entertainment:

  • Maine is the only U.S. state whose name has just one syllable.
  • Perspiration is odourless; it’s the bacteria on the skin that creates an odour.
  • The plastic things on the end of shoelaces are called aglets.
  • Only 55% of Americans know that the sun is a star.
  • Devon is the only county in Great Britain to have two coasts.
  • One in three snake bite victims is drunk; one in five is tattooed. (I’m guessing they mean real bites from snakes, not the cider+lager drink known to cause British kids to turn into yobs.)
  • The international telephone dialing code for Antarctica is 672.
  • People with blue eyes are better able to see in the dark. (Except for me!)
  • Polar bear fur isn’t white, it’s clear.
  • The two lines that connect your top lip to the bottom of your nose are known as the philtrum.

There you go – enough factoids to last you to next week I hope.
