Malaysian Grand Prix – complex maths time!

Even though qualifying is over and we saw everyone’s lap times, now comes the complicated bit – applying all the penalties and shuffling drivers to end up with the (provisional) grid.

The official FIA website says “The true grid won’t be published until Sunday morning, and there are numerous complications in determining where the drivers with engine changes will ultimately be placed for the start of the eighth Malaysian Grand Prix” but I want to have a go at working it out.

Pre-penalty grid: GF, JB, NR, MS, MW, JM, KR, FA, CK, RS, DC, RB, JT, JV, NH, FM, SS, VL, CA, TM, TS, YI.

Penalties for engine changes: MS (puts him behind JV), RS (behind TM), DC (behind RS), RB (behind DC) & FM (rock bottom).
Note: JV and GF both had new engines but didn’t finish in Bahrain so they won’t be penalised.

My guess at the grid:

M.Webber (Williams)
J.Montoya (McLaren)
K.Raikkonen (McLaren)

The only version I’ve seen online is on f1.racing-live.com and their grid looks like this:
GF, JB, NR, MW, JM, KR, FA, CK, JT, JV, NH, SS, VL, MS, CA, TM, TS, YI, DC, RB, RS, FM.
