Transit union threatening another illegal strike

Unconfirmed rumours online are that Amalgamated Transit Workers Union Local 113 are threatening a repeat of the illegal strike they organised last Monday. Wonderful :(

I’m sure some people will like the idea of a Monday “off” but I want to get to work and get on with my job – maybe that’s why I’m not a member of a union.

Ironically, as I’m watching CP24 (local news TV channel), the ticker reports that TTC pass holders can get a $4 refund for last week’s unlawful strike at subway stations from Monday onwards. Yeah, assuming they’re not causing mayhem again rather than actually following the procedure that they’ve agreed to as part of their pay agreements. Aargh!

I still think it’s wrong that the TTC is providing the refund – it should be the union that are forced to pick up (a fraction of) the cost of their illegal actions. How long before the TTC have to raise fares because they’re funding is running low again?

At least if I do have to work from home again we now have our air conditioner installed. Oh, and it’s a statutory holiday (Whitmonday) in Germany, so I’ve only got one 15-minute meeting tomorrow.

Update: Monday @ 6:30am: No strike. Phew.
