Track temperature 47°C; air temp 26°C; wind 1.3m/s; humidity 42%

Ralf Schumacher is first on track in his Toyota.

RS posts the first lap time 1:22.019

Rosberg 1:17.817

Speed 1:17.769

Raikkonen 1:17.574

Klien 1:17.348

Speed 1:17.164

Raikkonen 1:16.778

Montoya 1:16.509

Montoya 1:16.251

Alonso 1:16.247

5mins left; bottom 6 are TS, RS, GF, DC, NH, JV

Alonso 1:15.350

3mins left; DC has yet to set a time

Last chance at a flying lap; Rosberg and Webber are clearly on the limit

Session ended; bottom 6 are: P17=MW; 18=SS; 19=TM; 20=CA; 21=TS; 22=FMo

Replay shows sparks flying as NR skims the wall – he was lucky to get away with that!

Session 2:

Liuzzi is first on track for this session

JV is out early too – he waited until ~10mins in to Session 1

VL 1:16.874

JV 1:16.228

NR 1:15.773

FA 1:14.726

10mins left; everyone except the 2 Ferrari drivers has been out, although 4 others have yet to set a time

5mins left; both Hondas in jeopardy (JB+RB), along with JV, CK, DC & VL

3mins left; FA still has a comfortable lead at the top (not that it matters too much in this session)

There’s a “slippery track” being waved, so it’s unlikely there’ll be any significant improvements in lap times now

Last flying lap; all the bottom 6 drivers are on track

JV jumps to P9 … but then Button and Barrichello both beat his time, pushing Villeneuve back into the bottom 6

Session ended; bottom 6 are: P11=JV; 12=CK; 13=NH; 14=RS; 15=VL; 16=DC

Session 3:

The drivers in the top 10 battle are: Alonso, Fisichella, Raikkonen, Montoya, M.Schumacher, Massa, Trulli, Rosberg, Button & Barrichello

The two Renaults are first on track, as everyone heads out and start burning off fuel

The first (somewhat artificial) lap time is FA’s 1:19.601

GF 1:19.601

MS 1:18.476

15mins left

KR 1:18.061

10mins left – who will pit first?

9mins left; both Ferraris pit

FA 1:17.883

GF 1:17.507

7m30 left; KR pits

6mins left; MS (on new tyres) posts 1:16.284 – it’s 1.3s faster than the previous (GF’s) fastest time – that’s not enough for pole

Did MS touch the wall on that fast lap?

KR 1:15.564 – 0.7s faster than MS

FA 1:14.942 – 0.6s faster than KR but 0.2s slower than his lap time in the 2nd session

3mins left; remember in this session (only) you can complete your flying lap when the flag falls

KR pits again, as does FMa; JM pits too

MS pits for a 2nd set of new tyres

1min15sec left – if you’ve not started a flying lap, it’s too late!

Both Hondas are ~4s off the pace

Chequered flag is out

FA doesn’t improve on 1:14.942

JB up to P8

Top 10 are: P1=FA, 2=GF, 3=KR, 4=JT, 5=MS, 6=NR, 7=JM, 8=JB, 9=RB, 10=FMa
