Data Execution Prevention
Thanks to Call For Help, I just learned about an XP security feature called DEP:
“Data Execution Prevention (DEP) helps protect against damage from viruses and other security threats.”
To turn it on, go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced tab -> Performance Settings -> Data Execution Prevention tab -> “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select” (and the list should be empty).
Of course, being Windows, you will have to reboot.
