Too much excitement on a Friday

Even by TTC standards, it was a crazy journey today.

My weird and wacky trip to work started with a schoolgirl collapsing at the subway station. Her friends had put her on one of the seats and a TTC employee was calling for help when I arrived on the platform; oddly everyone was more interested in catching their train than crowding around her, which was good.

A while later I remember seeing two school kids get on the bus and hang around by the driver. Apparently one kid was refusing to pay his fare – I missed the debate thanks to Ozzy & co on my MP3 player, but it went on for 3 or 4 stops. A message from a TTC supervisor blared out over the bus’ speakers: pay, get off, or police will attend. (Please don’t go with option 3, I thought – I don’t want to wait in the cold, and it was snowing quite heavily at that point.) Fortunately the kid & friend got off after “expressing their disappointment”.

Less than a block up the road, a bus was stopped with police & fire vehicles behind it, and ambulance ahead. Our driver stopped alongside for a look but I couldn’t see what was going on.

Heading home, there was a guy acting suspiciously – furtively looking his bag, then getting and walking part-way down the bus without said bag. Repeat this behavior and I start to wonder what’s going on; repeat it a couple more times and I’m wondering whether to talk to the driver, call the police myself, or just get off. Then he moved seat, to squeeze in next to a girl nearer the front. Fortunately he got off a few stops later and I checked he had his bag. (Of course he could have taken something out and left it under the seat.)

Just when I thought we were over the crazies, the subway train pulls out of the station then stops because a woman on the platform is shouting at a guy (in my carriage) that she forgot her keys. They actually stopped the train halfway out of the station so he could pass her his keys via the TTC guard!

I was definitely pleased to get home after such an odd day. Unfortunately I tweaked my elbow at badminton (I didn’t warm up properly at all, and went straight into a game with 3 of the top players) so I came home after just a couple of games. Maybe the weekend will prove less weird & frustrating.

  6. [...] Personally, I didn’t find today to be any different to other Mondays, and fortunately it was a whole lot better than last Friday. How was your day? [...]
