An Apple a day

We’re in the market for a new laptop; I’ve been toying with the idea of getting an Apple and running Parallels so that we can have the best of all worlds: Apple’s GUI, Linux stability, and Windows … err, popularity?

I’d peg our budget as about $1,200-1,500 but I’ve been led to believe (although I have yet to investigate) that Apple hardware is more expensive than vanilla WIntel boxes. It makes sense – you can only buy Apple hardware from Apple, but you get get PC components from a multitude of suppliers; monopolies are bad, mkay.

On my list of jobs for this weekend is to checkout the Apple store (just online for now) but I also want to solicit feedback from all the Apple users out there. Our requirements are basically that it’s an Intel-based laptop that won’t burst our budget – what would you recommend?
