Taxing my patience

I started working on our taxes at 10:15am today. By midday I had a headache. I’ve spent another couple of hours on it and it doesn’t look good – somehow we both owe the taxman (a total of almost $2,500!) but I’m sure I’ve missed something. The past couple of years it’s been fairly straightforward and I wasn’t sure that buying the tax prep software had been entirely worthwhile, but now I’m sorely tempted to download something ASAP because it’s bound to spot my mistake and reduce that deficit … I hope!

  2. Honestly, I think spending $40 on Quicktax is a good investment ($30 on sale sometimes — like I found this year at Office Depot)

It’s soooooooo simple to use. And unless you’re doing a complex return it’s dead simple to use. Plus it makes life easier with those “what ifs” when playing with numbers. Just plug in new numbers and see how it works

  4. I tried to buy QuickTax online this afternoon (it’s what I’ve used the past couple of years) but it kept bouncing our credit cards – I guess the problem was their end because there was a note on the site about the login function being disabled due to high volume. Guess we’ll try again tomorrow.

What kind of “what ifs” do you do? Surely you just plug in the numbers from your T4 etc and it tells you whether you win big or if you owe them?

Tell me what you're thinking...
