Is that really the best we can do?

I saw the logo for the 2012 London Olympics … what a hideous monstrosity! I freely admit I’m no artist but even I would have been too embarrassed to submit this:

Oddly enough the BBC reports that there’s “an online petition calling for it to be scrapped has more than 25,000 signatures [there's actually 48,615 at the time of posting] and over 3,200 messages have been posted on the BBC Sport website”.

The same BBC article says the logo “was designed by the Wolff Olins agency and cost £400,000″ – I hope the designers will be suitably ashamed and maybe even offer to produce a real logo, not one created by three year old. Or maybe they’ll be so proud of their baby’s barf that they’ll use it on their own website. Yeah, probably the latter.

  2. Lots of (far better) alternatives have been posted on the BBC site.

    One of my favourites:
    A better design
