US Grand Prix – Saturday practice
Speed is showing Saturday practice, which is unusual – normally we just get a review of Friday morning and then coverage of the afternoon session. (I’m sure you’ve detected my dislike of Speed’s commentators, but any coverage is better than none!)
I missed the first bit of the session (I wasn’t expecting it to be televised) but I’ll put my notes after a cut as usual.
NH 1:13.135
KR 1:13.196
FA 1:12.559
LH 1:12.378
Replay of GF hitting an unsuspecting pigeon
Rumours of an overnight engine change for Hamilton’s McLaren – that’ll mean a 10 grid spot penalty ![]()
SV 1:12.321
5mins left
FM on a hot lap but runs very wide
FA 1:12.150 with just under 90secs left in this session
Top times:
- F.Alonso (McLaren) 1:12.150
- S.Vettel (BMW) 1:12.321 — that’s really impressive, especially given he’s standing in for Kubica
- L.Hamilton (McLaren) 1:12.378
- H.Kovalainen (Renault) 1:12.574
- N.Heidfeld (BMW) 1:12.646
- K.Raikkonen (Ferrari) 1:12.692
- F.Massa (Ferrari) 1:12.079
- G.Fisichella (Renault) 1:12.710
Norbert Haug confirms Hamilton’s engine change, but he points out that this is race 7 so they can legitimately start* with a new engine. *Note: the “start” of the race weekend (as far as the engines are concerned) is Saturday practice, so by changing it last night they will not be penalised.
