Dead drive
Looks like the 500Gb SATA drive on the server is sick – hopefully not dead but I’ll check it tomorrow. Of course this is not only the drive with all my music on it, but it’s also the home for all the daily backups.

It’s worse than I thought! I tried to reboot this morning to see if either the BIOS or Fedora boot up would report any problems, and instead the server won’t boot!!!
I’ll update my sysadmin blog with the details – the post is here.
Panic over – the server came up after lunch (sounds like I regurgitated it!) and Beaker was back by late afternoon. No real explanation for either problem, which always worries me – how do I know it won’t just happen again tomorrow/next week, and if it does how do I fix it?
