An interesting and hopefully productive evening

Fortunately a meeting got moved so I left work early and headed off to meet up with Kerri, to see yet another place – this one was near York Mills and Vic Park. It was OK – in fact it dethroned the #1 choice of places available on the 1st; however it didn’t trump the one that’s not available until the 15th, so our predicament continued.

Our other viewing was at Danforth & Woodbine, so we spent ~40mins on the TTC to get there … and only ~30 seconds to decide it wasn’t for us. It wasn’t an entirely wasted trip though – on the way home we wandered through the Honda showroom and were pleasantly surprised at the prices of some fairly nice looking used cars. (It may be double the cost of the TTC but it would halve my journey time!)

After that we decided we’d earned a beer so we tried out Relish bar & grill – nice place, good beer (Leffe Blonde, Leffe Brune, Belle-Vue Kriek, Hoegaarden and more) and tasty nibbles (it’s a tapas bar). Over a couple of drinks we decided we’re going with the one that’s not available until the 15th, which leaves us homeless for 2 weeks … except we heard today that friends just back from vacation have room for us (they let out part of their house and it just happens to be vacant!) so I think we’ve almost got a workable plan! We just need to sort out storage for all our stuff for that couple of weeks and movers for both the 1st and 15th but then, fingers crossed, we can stop going insane over this move. That just leaves us work (head hunters keep calling Kerri and me – it’s so terrible!) and accommodation for a friend’s wedding to sort out and then we can return to a less manic pace. :)

  2. Hey, Paul (and Kerri) Congrats on a decision! Woot!

http://www.tendertouchmoving.com/ were our movers and they were awesome. They do have storage, too… get a quote on having them store your stuff for two weeks if you don’t find a better option.

They’re not as cheap as “two little guys with two big hearts” and the like (I assume), but they were great – and the person I know who used “two little guys” had nothing but evil things to report, unfortunately.

Anyhow, once again – congrats! And thanks for the tip on used Hondas. Bjorn is aging rapidly, and we’re gonna have to think about a successor soon… ~sniff~

BTW, your field up there says “URI”…. is that supposed to be “URL”, or does spoon-bending come in somewhere and I’m just slow on the uptake?

  4. Thanks; if they’re going to take care of our stuff, then it’s worth it if they’re a little more expensive.

The guy we talked to at Honda is Dan Luchiang. We also had a quick look at a Volvo place a couple of doors along, but I’d say stay well away from them – I could see the rust and body damage from a few feet away!

WordPress (our blog s/w) uses URI because it’s technically more correct (but less well known) than URL.

  6. Wow.
    Congratulations on finding a place!
I’ve got to go for a drink or dinner with Kerri one of these days.

  8. Thanks.

So what happened to the party? (I left you a msg on Facbook too in case you don’t see this.)
