In addition to the Toronto Photo Walks group, which is just over a year old, I’ve just started a new group – Word of the Week. The aim is to take & post a new photo each week; I’ll post a new word each Sunday and everyone has until the following Saturday night to post a photo which represents what that word to them. Easy as that.

The first Word of the Week is “orange”, which means people should tag their photos with “WW:orange“. Meanwhile I’ll continue reading the manual and practicing with my new 7D :)

If You Had $2000 to Spend on Photographic Gear

Over on the Digital Photography School blog they asked “If I gave you $2000 to spend on camera gear – what would you buy?

Well, I’ve had my Canon Rebel XTi for about 2.5 years and I’d really like to move up to the Canon 7D – the advertised price is around $1400, which means about $1650 with taxes etc. (PhotoPrice.ca has a handy comparison chart of what it really costs to have it in your hands!)

Alternatively, I’d really like to pick up the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM lens – advertised price $1270 so just under $1500 really.

Kerri bought me a Speedlite 430EX II (flash) recently, and I have a decent tripod, monopod and GorillaPod, as well as a new backpack (Lowepro Fastpack 350) and I even bought Lightroom 3 when it came out, so I’m not sure what I’d spend the remaining budget on. Maybe the BG-E7 Battery Grip for the 7D and some larger memory cards.

If the question allowed me to spend some of the budget on something other than “gear”, then it’s a bit easier – printing & framing some of my shots, and maybe another workshop.

So what about you? What’s on your wishlist?

Phew

I’m relieved to see this blog is still up – a couple of my domains need to be renewed this month, so this morning I decided to move a few “stragglers” from cadns.ca to namecheap.com (I have no problem with cadns – it’s just the majority of my domains are registered with namecheap), and while I was out this afternoon I got an email saying the transfers were done … and then it dawned on me that I might need to reconfigure them. Fortunately that wasn’t the case – henman.ca, badinto.ca, topmanager.ca and winesconstantly.ca are all still fully functional. Phew!
