Weekend round-up of odds and ends
Posted by paul
Partly a To Do list, and partly a Don’t Lose These list:
- I posted in the BlogExplosion Forums asking for feedback on my blog;
reply to outstanding comments - I’ve got a few (~30) comment spams recently;
investigate WordPress tools to prevent it [plugins directory] - check out the BrainBench free tests for this month
- test out a new WP style I’ve seen a few people using called squible
- mind you, before I go trying new styles, I need to get my two (CSSreboot and Hobson) tidied up
-
monitor the new visitors map – I don’t think it’s going to be as useful as the one from BlogFlux -
uninstall Google Desktp 2.0– it just makes an absolute mess of my desktop (moving shortcuts around) and I just don’t see the need for it - check out the Web Page Analyzer results for the blog and website … but only after I’ve removed a heap of those buttons
- re-add/fix the Blogging Brits code which seems to have disappeared, resulting in me being dropped from the web-ring
- GoogleAds seems to have gone missing too
- add something to the CSS to show Private posts differently

I just installed Google Desktop last night. 8 hours for it to index?! That’s already kind of put a damper on it. I wonder if it’s another of those “toys” I’ll be getting rid of.
Paul, I like AMM a lot, it was easy to install, has a clean hook into Amazon that allows you to find anything on their site and rate it. If you are into putting your rating on things on your site, I highly recommend it. I plan on restricting it to the many books I read, but you can rate pretty much any product that Amazon supports.

Aside from the mess it made of my desktop, I really didn’t see why I needed GD, plus it didn’t play nicely with Opera (my browser of choice), so it had to go.
Google Earth, however, is a great way to lose an hour or two!
Spam Karma 2 now installed & operational.
As expected, the gvisit.com visitor tracking thingy isn’t as good as the one at blogflux, so it’s time to rip out the code … and now it’s gone.
