Malaysian Grand Prix – practice & qualifying

D’oh! I got confused and missed qualifying (5am this morning) because I thought it was Friday practice! So no live notes from me, but I’ll scan the F1 news sources and see what’s what.

Friday practice:
Nico Rosberg was fastest in the first practice session (1:36.260); Kimi Raikkonen went top in the 2nd session (1:35.707). NR was also fastest in Saturday morning’s practice (1:35.940).

Rubens Barrichello picked up a 5 grid spot penalty after his Brawn GP car needed a new gearbox following Friday practice. [FIA]

Qualifying:
Q1: Fastest = RB (1:34.681); Bottom 5 are P16=FM, 17=NP, 18=GF, 19=AS, 20=SBu.
Q2: f/lap JB (1:33.784); bottom 5 are P11=NH, 12=KN, 13=LH, 14=HK, 15=SBo.
Q3: P1=JB (1:35.181), 2=JT, 3=SV, 4=RB*, 5=TG, 6=NR, 7=MW, 8=RK, 9=KR, 10=FA. (RB will be relegated to P9)

So the provisional grid is: JB, JT, SV, TG, NR, MW, RK, KR, RB, FA, NH, KN, LH, HK, SBo, FM, NP, GF, AS, SBu.

The race starts at 5am tomorrow morning – the question is whether I try to stay awake or get up early – probably the latter. :)

Update: I forgot that SV has a 10 grid spot penalty imposed after the Australian GP, so he drops from P3 to P13, behind LH.
