F1 news round-up

Lots of Formula One news today:

  • After 43-years in Formula 1, Ron Dennis has formally handed over control of McLaren Racing to team principal Martin Whitmarsh. “I doubt if (FIA president) Max Mosley or (F1 supremo) Bernie Ecclestone will be displeased by my decision.” [BBC] [FIA]
  • Ferrari are dumping KERS (the Kinetic Energy Recovery System) for this weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix, having encountered reliability problems with it in Malaysia. Meanwhile Robert Kubica is expected to test BMW Sauber’s system in Friday practice – teammate Nick Heidfeld has used KERS at both previous grands prix. [BBC] [FIA]
  • Following the FIA ICA decision that the new Brawn, Toyota and Williams diffusers are legal, Renault and McLaren will be using updated diffusers at the Chinese GP. [BBC]

There was talk that McLaren would face the FIA this week (for additional punishment, having been found guilty of misleading race stewards following the Australian Grand Prix) but this is scheduled for April 29th.
