Stay away from the new Rogers anti-virus

Posted by paul

I followed the email from Rogers (my ISP) that told me they were dropping Symantec and I should install their new anti-virus offering. I should have known better, but I don’t know what came over me. It’s my own stupid fault, and I’ll never get those two hours back.

The email told me that I “need to upgrade to our NEW Rogers Online Protection before June 30th, 2009″, and that “Rogers Online Protection replaces the [Symantec] security suite” we previously received for free, for being a Rogers customer. Software Inspector

Posted by paul

I found a new tool yesterday: Secunia‘s Software Inspector. They’re a well-known Danish software company, and this tool is a handy scanner which will identify software installed on your (Windows) PC and warn you of critical updates, as well as point you at where to download updates (although some links are broken).

I recommend all Windows users check out this tool and install all security patches ASAP – if you have to run Windows, at least try to reduce the holes in it.

Thanks to “munawar” for posting “This Is What A Terrorist Looks Like” – I’ve been saying this for ages but I’ve not got around to digging up all the links to support a post, so thanks for saving me the effort. :)
