Hot and bothered

Posted by paul

It’s just past 8am and it’s already 25°C, 34 if you take the humidity into account … which you should because it’s impossible to ignore!

I’ve been awake since about 3:30am because of the heat, and it’s not forecast to get any better before the end of the week. Today’s high is expected to reach 32°C (so it’ll probably feel more like the low 40s with the humidity) but at least there’s a fair chance of a thunderstorm – it might not ease the heat but at least it’ll be pretty :)

The only thing that’s more frustrating than the inescapable weather Read more »

Light show

Posted by paul

There’s a stubborn thunderstorm rumbling around this morning – doesn’t seem to want to move on. Traffic news on local TV shows quite a few accidents as a result of large amounts of standing water. Looks like fun out there!

Amusing (Top2-2007.10)

Couple of funny things I found this evening:

  1. Laugh All You Want, This Has Always Worked for Me…

via a post spotted in Accordion Guy’s blog
  2. “Just about all of the systems I’ve written about here share quite a few things in common: they are poorly designed, poorly coded, and even more poorly documented. Today, I’m happy to share with you a system that doesn’t quite fit in with all the rest. It’s actually very sound software and, most of all, it’s well documented. Very, very well documented.:

OK, given that was bit of a cop-out for this week’s Top 2 list, how about a brace of interesting links?

  1. Did you know yesterday was Toronto’s 173rd birthday? Nor did I until I found this post in BlogTO which in turn led me to “The real story of how Toronto got its name“.
  2. It’s been really cold for the past day or so; so cold that Environment Canada’s forecast for Toronto said to expect “Wind chill values between minus 30 and minus 39 this morning.” There was even a handy weather guide posted (on LiveJournal) in reply to someone asking what to wear when visiting Toronto this week. :)

Snow day

I’m not going in to work today – the news keeps reporting lots of problems and saying don’t go out unless you have to; apparently there are power failures in the area around work. I can’t connect (via VPN) and calling the office number either says the number is busy or unavailable. Guess I’m not the only one not going in today. :)

Winter’s not over yet

Posted by paul

The warnings started yesterday with Environment Canada have been promising a severe snow/hail/freezing rain storm starting this evening. Local TV has been whipping up a panic and scaring people into believing the end of the world is nigh. Read more »
