Strange F1 news

Two pieces of F1 news, neither of which seem very fair:

  • The FIA have announced that the Red Bull’s floor is not legal:

FIA technical head Charlie Whiting sent all teams a directive on Friday. The note confirmed that “fully enclosed holes may not be located” in that area of the car.

My problem, though, is that the FIA have decided to leave all past results untouched despite the Red Bulls finishing 1st and 4th in the Monaco Grand Prix. So the FIA say they know the floor was illegal but Red Bull can keep their points – that doesn’t seem right, does it?

  • The organisers of this coming weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix have given in to terrorists! Bernie Ecclestone was adamant that the Bahrain Grand Prix would go ahead despite concerns of violent uprisings, including petrol bombs, but the free opening day of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend is cancelled because of some students who think they’re hard done-by. Francois Dumontier, president of the Canadian GP, said “Under these circumstances, cancelling the ‘Open House’ day was the only action we could take. Unfortunately, for the fans and our spectators, it was impossible to escape from such responsibility.” [source: Toronto Star]

Really? Some spoiled students who pay less than anyone else in Canada can cause a cancellation but armed uprisings don’t; seems a bit odd!

Oh well, I guess I’ll update the championship standings based on the FIA’s “What illegal floor? We see nothing!” declaration.
