- TOPW: South on Yonge in North York
The walk south from Finch station almost started with witnessing someone getting run over! A woman waited for the lights to change (telling pedestrians not to cross) and then stepped out in front of a bus. The bus driver leaned on his horn, but she kept going and then appeared (having been hidden by the bus) in front of moving traffic! You can tell none of us are photojournalists because we all watched in horror rather than capturing it with our cameras. The rest of the walk was uneventful, and uninspiring for me – I’m not a fan of pounding pavements surrounded by ugly tower blocks.
- TOPW: Start with Coffee End with Beer, from Bloor and St. George to Harbord House Walk
The name was almost as long as the route! This photowalk was a combined TOPW and Toronto Film Shooters endeavour – it was created as a TFS walk a couple of weeks earlier but that was rained off. The route from St. George subway station avoided some of the busier streets, instead following some alleys and laneways. The high point for me, though, was the diversion near the end that three of us took to visit Bickford Brewing Company. It’s a nano brewery, which means there was just room for us to sit at the bar, with the fermentation tanks almost within arms reach. Their “What Gose Round” was a hit, as was the Dog Park Pale Ale, although I have to say I liked all eight of the samples that I tried, with the gose and Buried Bridge Pilsner topping my list.
