It feels like I’m finally hitting my stride after shooting the Honda Indy Toronto for seven years! As a volunteer shooting for the HIT organisers (for social media, marketing use, etc.), we’re given a shot list that mostly about capturing photos of crowds enjoying the event; the benefit for me is access to shoot some racing up close.
I think I got some fairly decent shots of people in the paddocks and around the circuit, although I haven’t shared many of these in my Flickr album.
The three-day race weekend included a variety of racing formulae: Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship; Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires; Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires; Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama; Stadium Super Trucks; NASCAR Pinty’s Series; Verizon IndyCar Series. As it was in previous years, the Stadium Super Trucks got the biggest reaction from the crowds, especially when they hit the jumps.
Here are a few of my shots from the various practices, qualifying sessions and races:
The was a small incident next to one of the photo holes when I was shooting at Turn 5 in the IndyCar race:
