Updated 2021 F1 calendar

It’s not as chaotic as 2020 (touch wood) but there’s been a few changes to the F1 calendar for this year, so I thought I’d post an updated version.

~~ ~~ Updated calendar posted ~~ ~~

The changes since my post in March are:

  • Apr28: Canada (round 7, June 11-13) was dropped due to quarantine requirements; it was replaced by Turkey’s Istanbul Park track for the same weekend. [FIA]
  • May14: Turkey (round 7, June 11-13) was dropped due to quarantine requirements; there won’t be a race that weekend, so France becomes round 7 but it’s also moved a week earlier (will now be Jun20); that makes room for the Styrian GP (round 8, June 25-27) at the Red Bull Ring, Spielberg, and then rest of the calendar is unchanged. [FIA]
(The other change I noticed in this updated calendar is that the Russian flag (for round 15) has been removed, which relates to December 2019’s ruling by the World Anti-Doping Agency banning the use of the Russian flag for four years. [BBC])

Jun04: “The Singapore Grand Prix has been called off this year and Formula 1 is assessing its options to replace the race, BBC Sport can reveal.” [BBC]
Singapore was scheduled to be Round 16, Oct 01-03, between Russia and Japan.
BBC says “Turkey, China and a second race at Austin in the USA are all under consideration as replacements.”

Jun26: “Formula 1 have announced that the Turkish Grand Prix will return to the calendar this season, with the race at Istanbul Park set to take place in early October, on the weekend originally scheduled to host the Singapore Grand Prix.” [FIA]
Jun26: Also announced was a move of the 2023 Russian GP from Sochi to Autodrom Igora Drive, a new purpose-built circuit just outside St Petersburg. [FIA]

Jul06: Having already been postponed, “The Australian Grand Prix will not take place in 2021. The race, which was scheduled for November 19-21 at Albert Park in Melbourne, was set to be round 21 of 23.” [FIA]

Aug18: Mexico have asked to move their GP a week later and now Japan’s cancelled, so the second half of the season is seeing more changes than the first! [BBC]
